The Natural Beauty Box: April 2019 (Review)

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I love a good beauty box – and The Natural Beauty Box is one of my favourites. Just when I thought I couldn’t love The Natural Beauty Box anymore, the lovely Emma announced that they’ll be a plastic-free box every quarter – a small change that will certainly make a big impact on both the environment and my beauty routine.

April’s Skin-Tritious box contained some incredible products from brands dedicated to reduce their plastic waste. I must admit that i’ve been loving everything so much that I am a little later than usual posting my review. Even though I’m familiar with a few of the brand’s featured in April’s edit, I am yet to try any of these beauty essentials. This is one of the reasons why I love The Natural Beauty Box so much as not only do you discover some amazing new brands but you also experience more from the brands featured in past boxes. With a box value of £66.00, I was impressed by the value for money and overjoyed to see some really affordable items in the box too…

Love Absolute: Deep Ocean Facial Mud Bar

Love Absolute are a new-to-me brand but after my experience with their products in this month’s box, i’m sure it won’t be the last time you see them on Beauty Folio. The brand themselves are dedicated to environmental issues, as not only do they have a completely zero-waste project in motion but they also use bee-friendly oils and sustainably harvested resins in their products. When it came to using the Deep Ocean Facial Mud Bar I was blown away by how pretty it was, with a sprinkle of wild flowers and jojoba wax that made me want to try it immediately. I’m not usually a fan of bar cleansers or soaps as I find they dry my very dry skin out and leave me feeling tight and my skin flaky – but this was completely different. The bar has a refreshing oceanic scent, with a slight earthiness that is very pleasant but unlike anything i’ve used before. The Facial Mud Bar produces a gorgeously light, gentle lather that washes away the dirt and grime from the skin without stripping the skin’s natural oils. The skin loving ingredients, including Aqamarine Clay, English Blackcurrant Seed Oil, organic glycerine and blue chamomile essential oils, care for the skin by calming, soothing and nourishing while also effectively cleansing. After use, my skin felt refreshed, soft and incredibly clean without any dryness at all. This is perfect to use as a face-wash style product, as it would be perfect as a single AM cleanse but also works perfectly as a second cleanse in the evening. I am surprised at how well this bar is lasting, as it still looks the same size as it did when it arrived despite using it practically every day. If you’re looking for a plastic-free cleansing product (soon to be zero-waste!), then this is certainly the product for you.

Love Absolute: Faux Lemon & Vit C Treatment Serum

I do love a good serum so was delighted to see another lovely product from Love Absolute. The Faux Lemon & Vit C Treatment Oil is formulated with the brand’s  award-winning Radiance Oil as a base, a blend of skin loving ingredients such as English Wildflower, Blackcurrant oil and Vitamin E, alongside a blend of essential oils that give the serum its unique skin calming and conditioning properties.  The serum is designed with every skin type in mind thanks to the lightweight formula that aims to boost radiance and moisture, while calming irritation and redness. The oil itself smells heavenly, with a refreshing lemon scent which has a subtle herbal quality to it. On the skin, the serum is a delight to use, as it sits well under my moisturiser to give skin a glow without a greasy residue. A few drops of oil goes a very long way, giving the skin enough nourishment to offer long term improvement in the overall condition of the skin. On my dry skin type, I found it very beneficial within my skincare routine as using this under my usual moisturiser meant that I didn’t need to follow with a balm afterwards. I’ve been using this since I received the box and have to say that the lightweight and absorbent texture makes this a standout serum for me, especially in the warm weather we’ve been experiencing recently. To say i’ve been loving Love Absolute is an understatement, as their high quality, plastic-free products have certainly exceeded my expectations and have already been added to my wishlist.

Maison Meunier: Purifying Face Mask

There’s nothing better than the weekly face masking ritual, especially when a product performs as well as Maison Meunier’s Purifying Face Mask. The Dead Sea Mineral Mud has the most glorious texture I think i’ve ever used in a pre-mixed mask as it was silky smooth and applied to the face with ease. The beautiful mask contains dead sea mineral mud, green tea, rose, neroli and hyaluronic acid which not only gives the mask a luxurious and relaxing aroma (thanks to the neroli), but also promises to nourish, brighten, calm and detox the skin – all without drying it out. The mask sits well on the skin and doesn’t dry out like other mud masks i’ve used in the past. After 10 mins, my skin was left feeling soft and smooth without any dry patches or tightening. My face didn’t feel in instant need of moisture and I was very impressed by it’s performance, especially as a little product went a very long way. This experience has re-affirmed my love of the brand, as I discovered their Aloe Vera and Chamomoile face lotion last month. If you’re looking for a quick and easy face mask that delivers on it’s promises, then look no further than Maison Meunier.

Niskama Skincare: Nutrient Boost Daily Moisturiser

20190524_074204.jpg

After the positive experience of using Niskama Skincare’s Gentle Smoothing Face Polish from November’s Box, I was thrilled to see the brand make another appearance. The Nutrient Boost Daily Moisturiser is formulated with sea buckthorn, Green Tea, evening primrose oil and Olive Squalene to create a beautiful moisturiser which is rich in vitamin c and antioxidants to nourish and smooth the skin while reducing signs of aging and maintaining moisture. The intensely pigmented moisturiser has a very unique texture, as from the jar it has an almost tacky consistency yet on the skin, feels like a very lightweight, silky balm. I love how this daily moisturiser feels on the skin, as it absorbs incredibly well yet leaves skin feeling intensely moisturised and and somewhat soothed. I love how it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on the face but maintains the look and feel of well-conditioned skin. It sits well under my SPF, and even makes for a lovely base for make-up application. I’ve been using it in both my AM and PM routine recently and not only does my skin look and feel more hydrated, but I’m only using the smallest amount of product to gain maximum results – and it truly doesn’t get any better than that!

Buff Natural Bodycare: Kid Hand & Body Butter

20190524_074337.jpg

Buff Natural Bodycare are another brand to re-appear in The Natural Beauty Box after their Nuit Sea Salt Body Scrub was a huge hit for me back in September last year. Buff’s Hand & Body Body, from their Kid (For Big Kid’s) range, is a fast-absorbing hand and body butter formulated with Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil and Safflower all blended with essential oils of Mandarin, Lavender and Heliotrope. The essential oils give this butter a distinctive scent which is sweet yet freshly floral which is the perfect blend for this time of year. What I love most about Buff’s Body Butter is the rich texture that is surprisingly absorbent, leaving skin feeling soft, supple and moisturised without any greasy residue. This has made me reach for Kid Hand & Body Butter as a hand cream more than a body butter, as I’ve found it soothes any chapped skin yet leaves my hands soft and nourished without having to wait hours for it to soak in. Buff have wowed me yet again, and with such a amall amount needed per application, this is a product that will last for the long haul.

The Natural Beauty Box has delivered yet again in April’s edit of their amazingly good value beauty box. Each product has performed incredibly well and the plastic-free packaging has certainly put these brands at the top of my wish list when it comes to guilt-free skincare. Just making a small change within our beauty routines can have a major impact on the environment, and these brands have certainly shown that plastic free does not compromise on the quality and performance of great skincare.

Last month’s box was a delight, and I can’t wait to see what this month’s box has to offer. You can see all the subscription details on their website, as well as all my previous box reviews here.

Take Care,

Emma @ Beauty Folio x
