Alexa Sky Botanicals: Reishi Pore Refiner Face Exfoliator (Review)

When I first tried Alexa Sky Botanicals’ Reishi Pore Refiner back in April, I was blown away by its initial performance. So after utilising this multi-purpose product in my skincare routine for several weeks, I wanted to update you on what a skincare wonder this truly is…

Exfoliators are a great way to rid the skin of dead skin cells while also boosting blood flow to help brighten the complexion and improve cell renewal. However, with so many physical and somewhat abrasive exfoliators out there, selecting the right one for your skin can be problematic as they can cause more harm than good. This is where Alexa Sky Botanicals’ Reishi Pore Refiner* is very different to others on the market as it has a powdered texture which mixes to a smooth paste; without any harsh exfoliants in sight.

Reishi mushroom has been used in Eastern medicine for centuries and has been proven to hydrate and retain the skin’s natural moisture levels while also aiding skin cell renewal, repairing skin damage, reducing puffiness and improving the common signs of aging. This alongside Rhassoul clay, dead sea salt and extracts of turmaric and marshmallow means that skin will be gently cleansed, exfoliated and nourished at the same time.

My first experience was incredibly positive, as my skin looked and felt better after just one use. I didn’t experienced any redness or irritation so I couldn’t wait to put it through it’s paces to see just what Reishi could do for my skin.

It’s been over 6 weeks now as I have to say that my thoughts and feelings towards this pot of powerful powder has certainly not changed, as the effects on my skin have been impressive and its multipurpose nature has certainly made it an integral part of my beauty regime. As an exfoliator, my skin remains soft and smooth all week and my skincare products appear to be penetrating my skin better than ever, as my dry complexion is now greatly improved and remains flake-free throughout the week. I definitely feel that this exfoliator is one of the best for drier skin types (although the vegan friendly, fragrance free product is suitable for all skin types), as it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight like other’s i’ve used in the past. I also find it very versatile, much like a powdered face mask, as I can personalise the exfoliator for what my skin is craving each week. I find mixing with simple water makes for great exfoliation but I also like experimenting with different hydrosols to really get the best results within my own personal beauty regime.

Mixed with Water

However, where Alexa Sky Botanicals’ Reishi Pore Refiner has come into it’s own is within my cleansing routine, as mixed with probiotic yogurt creates a cooling and effective cleanser that has transformed the feel of my skin. Probiotic is a good bacteria found within the body that helps to fight irritation and neutralise toxins to make sure your body is working as it should. However, like all natural bodily processes, they often need a boost which is why we often eat probiotic yogurts, drinks or supplements to allow probiotics to work to the best of their abilities. When utilised in skincare, they have the same properties they have within the body, therefore calming any irritation, balancing and eradicating any toxins to improve the overall appearance of our skin. I’ve been mixing a 1/4 spoon of Reishi Pore Refiner with a spoon of Probiotic Yogurt every day in my morning routine and have been blown away by the results. My skin feels smooth, soft and fresh – all with no dryness of tightening in the skin. The redness around my nose from hayfever-related nose blowing is greatly improved and feels soothed after use. I love rinsing it off with cool water as I feel like it preps my skin ready for the day ahead. As I have a dry skin type, I sometime skip a full cleanse in my AM routine and opt for a simple mist of rosewater instead as it can be a little too drying to cleanse my skin multiple times in one day. However, I have to say that I feel like this has certainly given my morning routine the boost it needed – and thanks to the refrigerated yogurt, my skin loses its morning puffiness quicker than usual so I can feel confident in the appearance of my skin a little sooner than usual!

Mixed with Probiotic Yogurt

To say that Alexa Sky Botanicals’ Reishi Pore Refiner has impressed me is an understatement, as its amazing skincare benefits means that this will be in my skincare routine for the long haul. The cleansing element will definitely be my go-to summer skin saviour, as I can already feel how cooling and refreshing this will be when the weather gets warmer. I also love how versatile it is as I can tailor it to my own skincare concerns, and its non-abrasive texture makes it one of the most unique exfolaitors i’ve ever used.
