Odylique: Body Wash & Shampoo (Review)

When it comes to organic beauty products, the first brand that always comes to mind is Odylique as their extensive range epitomises everything a green beauty brand should be, encapsulating a passion for natural beauty which spans over three decades.

The brand was founded on one women’s dedication and love of herbal remedies and aromatherapy, and a quest to find skincare suitable for sensitive, eczema prone skin that just wasn’t on the market 30 years ago. After much success in creating plant-based skincare for herself and her family, Odylique (formerly Essential Care) was born in 2003 and still remains the family-run business it always was, with all products formulated by Margaret herself, and handmade right here in the UK.

Odylique is still strongly dedicated to formulating cruelty-free and vegan friendly products with sensitive skin in mind, with each product free-from common allergens such as dairy, nut oils, wheat and lanolin, as well as the usual synthetic fragrances and irritants. It is this attention to detail that makes the brand very special, as not only do they have their own philosophy of what a skincare brand should be but they were also one of the first beauty brands to be certified organic by The Soil Association, ensuring that each product formulated must adhere to the organic principles and guidelines for the cleanest, purest products.

I have already had some experience with the brand and have always been impressed by the overall performance of each item i’ve encountered. You can imagine my delight when Odylique asked if i’d like to try some products as not only did it allow me to get a better feel for the brand and their product range but it also knocked two more items off my ever-growing wishlist…

Lemongrass Hand & Body Wash

Lemongrass is one of my favourite scents when it comes to skincare, especially in skin cleansing products as it is one of those aromas that instantly awakens the senses and brightens the mood.

Odylique’s Lemongrass Hand & Body Wash is formulated with the most gentle ingredients including aloe vera juice, olive oil and glycerin to create the most beautiful hand and body wash which leaves skin feeling clean and fresh without any dryness thanks to the 5.5 ph balance which replicates that of the skin. The essential oil blend of lemongrass, eucalyptus and spearmint is a true treat for the senses, with a refreshing lemongrass aroma that has a fresh, minty scent lingering in the background.

The hand and body wash itself creates a lovely lather that is light on the skin and rinses away with ease to leave skin smelling citrus-fresh and feeling lightly cleansed and surprisingly nourished.

I love the versatility of utilising it as a body wash, which is perfect for your AM cleansing routine, yet also as a hand soap in the bathroom. The plastic bottle, which is made from 100% recycled milk cartons, also makes it sink and shower-safe if you tend to be a little clumsy like I am. As it is made from recycled materials, it is also fully recyclable too – but you won’t be recycling too many of these bottles as the formulation is the gift that keeps on giving and lasts much longer than others i’ve used in the past. To say i’ve been loving Odylique’s Lemongrass Hand & Body Wash is an understatement and I have to say that it is certainly a product i’ll be repurchasing in the future.

Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo

I often experience patches of eczema and dryness on my scalp yet as I have quite oily hair, I always struggle to find a shampoo to help soothe my scalp while also being effective enough to cleanse my hair. Thankfully, Odylique’s Tea Tree and Herb Shampoo sounded up to the job thanks to its clarifying properties and scalp loving ingredients.

Odylique’s Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo contains a selection of gentle ingredients from coconut oil, nettle, horsetail and rosemary herbs to aloe vera juice and essential oils of cedarwood and tea-tree; A blend which certainly lives up to my high expectations.

The shampoo has one of the most unique textures i’ve personally ever experienced from a shampoo as it is slightly lumpy yet not overly thick, but lathers incredibly well and has a strong yet perfectly balanced tea-tree aroma that smells clean and slightly medicinal. The shampoo is designed to be left on the hair for several minutes to ensure that the natural ingredients can work their magic to not only soothe the scalp and balance any oiliness – but also to deeply nourish the hair too.

The shampoo is designed to be used on it’s own without conditioners as the 100% natural ingredients are conditioning enough and won’t weight the hair down. For me personally, I would say that I did need a little conditioner or hair oil after use as I have particularly thick hair with dry ends that perhaps need a little more TLC than others may require. I have to say though, dry ends excluded, that my hair certainly felt clean and soft after use and my scalp was less irritated, felt balanced and was completely free from dry skin.

If you suffer from scalp concerns yet are still looking for that natural shampoo that can clarify and cleanse oily hair then look no further than Odylique’s Tea Tree and Herb Shampoo. It certainly delivered great results in cleansing my hair and even though I usually need a lot of shampoo (thanks to living in a hard water area), I didn’t need a lot of product to get a good lather and great hair washing experience.

Odylique: Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo – £12.00/200ml or £22.00/500ml

My experience of these two Odylique products has added to my love of the brand with a selection of beautiful products that you can buy in confidence knowing that they are clean, green and provide amazing results. The wealth of knowledge that goes into each item is apparent from the lovely formulations, recyclable packaging and personal service that rightly makes them one of the leading organic brands in the UK.
