There is nothing better than discovering a new face mask to update your weekly masking ritual, especially when it’s as effective and affordable as J Botanics Spirulina Face Mask…

J Botanics are a natural, organic and vegan skincare brand who pride themselves on formulating products that not only defend from environmental factors but also improve the skin’s barrier function. All the products within the range are created with ingredients that have an essential fatty acid profile and are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help with a range of skin types from sensitive and dry to oily and combination. The brand are completely transparent and Earth-conscious in their approach to skin care and you will never find filler ingredients or those that don’t have a definitive purpose in any of their products.

If you’ve read my Natural Skincare Christmas Gift Guide this year you may have noticed J Botanics face mask feature as part of their Face Mask Secret Santa, a gift set which not only comes with a small reusable jute bag but also allows you to personalise product labels to make the gift extra special (a service that you can add to products across their whole range).

The face mask comes in a resealable pouch and contains around 4-5 applications depending on how much you like to use within your masking routine. Spirulina has been called the superfood of all superfoods as it is protein-rich, high in nutrients and has a wealth of skincare benefits from fighting signs of aging and toning the skin to reducing inflammation and softening the skin. Alongside Spirulina, J Botanics Spirulina Face Mask contains some beautiful ingredients including:

  • Tapioca Starch,
  • Pink Clay,
  • Green Clay,
  • Oatmeal,
  • Cucumber,
  • Frankincense,
  • Hemp Seed Oil,
  • Lavender.

The mask comes in a powdered formulation which is perfect for tailoring the mask to your own skin concerns, mixing with various liquid products from floral waters and green tea to honey and oat milk – the options are endless! As the mask has to be activated with liquid for application, it also gives it a longer shelf life (although i’m sure when you start masking with this, it won’t be left in your skincare stash for very long…).

The powdered mask is incredibly soft in texture which makes mixing to a smooth paste an incredibly easy task. The green hue is such a beautiful colour that is unlike anything i’ve personally used in the past. The mask has a lovely freshness to it, with a slight floral aroma that really adds to the whole masking experience. I must say that I am a huge clay mask fan and this has recently become one of my favourites, with great results that left my skin looking brighter and more radiant after use and feeling incredibly soft to the touch. My skin wasn’t left feeling tight or dry in any way, I experienced no irritation of redness – quite the opposite in fact – as it actually helped to soothe a little eczema and redness around my nose.

I loved how this made my skin feel hydrated yet detoxified, with my skin feeling clean and fresh after use. I feel like my dry skin really reaped the benefits of the skin loving ingredients, with the effects lasting for several days after use. Here are a few of my favourite J Botanics Spirulina Face Mask mixtures so far:

  • Chamomile Water and a few drops of J Botanics Nourish Face Oil (Sensitive),
  • Honey
  • Probiotic Yogurt
  • Rosewater

I have found myself reaching for this each week and it has certainly made its way on my repurchase list. I love the fact that it really tackles all my skin concerns in one mask and the 30g purchase size makes it travel-friendly and an incredibly affordable way to upgrade your masking routine for the better.
