Our skin is the largest organ in the human body so it’s not surprising that it can be very complex and in need of some extra TLC from time to time. If your skin is difficult to navigate from day to day, and seems to flare-up with no warning, it could mean you have a sensitive skin type...
Sensitive skin is naturally more reactive than most, with your skin not tolerating ingredients as well as other skin types such as dry and oily. It can be genetic, or characterised by conditions such as rosacea, eczema or psoriasis that is manageable, yet rarely curable. Sensitive skin is often confused with sensitised skin, a temporary condition whereby skin can be irritated by external factors such as environmental stressors (weather, pollution, seasonal changes and such like), or triggered by the overuse of products which damage the skin’s barrier. Sensitised skin is considered injured skin that can be repaired over time which is very different to a sensitive skin type which requires long term management.

Both conditions can be very uncomfortable, and eradicating certain products or ingredients that can aggravate is something which is very useful in keeping sensitive skin soothed and comfortable, while helping to repair the skin barrier and reduce irritation if your skin has become sensitised.
One of the first skincare ingredients those with a sensitive skin type may find most useful to eradicate from their beauty routines is essential oils, as some can be difficult to tolerate so unscented products is a good option to determine any allergies. This, although nice for the skin, can leave the senses a little underwhelmed which is why one brand has been made it their mission to create essential oil free formulations that still offer a sensory experience…
Leonie Botanics: Caring for Sensitive Skin, Naturally
Born from a personal struggle with sensitive skin, Kezzia – the brains behind the brand – wanted to develop a range of skincare that eradicated essential oils yet still offered a luxurious experience with plant-based ingredients that have a naturally occurring pleasant, aroma.

The Leonie Botanics capsule collection is formulated with sensitive skin in mind as well as helping those with a sensitised skin or whom simply want a less is more approach to their skincare ritual. While also being essential oil free, Leonie Botanics’ range is also vegan, cruelty-free, palm-oil free and contains a stunning array of natural ingredients that harness the power of the nature to leave you feeling comfortable in your own skin.
Leonie Botanics: Luminosity Brightening Oil To Milk Enzyme Cleanser – £39.00/100ml
Cleansing and exfoliating are the foundations of a great skincare routine, as long as it is done right. Thankfully Luminosity is the gentle formulation that is perfect for daily use, with beautiful ingredients such as papaya enzymes, green tea extract, passion seed oil and calendula to eradicate dead skin cells, balance sebum production, strengthen the skin barrier and leave skin more radiant after use.

The oil has a lovely, light fruity aroma and glides across the skin, removing all traces of SPF, make-up and daily impurities before transforming into milky emulsion that rinses away with ease. My skin is always left feeling soft and smooth after use, with any irritation feeling soothed and my complexion looking fresher and brighter after continued use. I find myself keep reaching for this time and time again as it delivers incredible results with each use.
Leonie Botanics: Day Dreamer Balancing Face Oil – £42.00/30ml
I am a huge facial oil fan and the latest release from Leonie Botanics is certainly no exception. Day Dreamer, with it’s incredible blue hue and fresh aroma, is an absolute delight with beautiful ingredients such as watermelon, chia, prickly pear and blueberry NECTA to balance moisture levels and sebum production while protecting the skin from external stresses such as blue light and free radicals.

As someone with a drier skin type, I was originally concerned that Day Dreamer wouldn’t be enough for my skin yet I couldn’t have been more wrong, as it simply makes my skin look and feel at its very best, helping to soothe redness and irritation around my nose from eczema flare-ups and keeping my skin feeling nourished all day long.
Leonie Botanics: Sweet Dreams Rejuvenating Face Oil – £42.00/30ml
The very first product that Leonie Botanics launched is still one of my holy grail’s and its no surprise why. Sweet Dreams is a non-greasy oil which contains some truly beautiful ingredients that are rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins to ensure that your skin gets all it needs while you sleep.

The stunning blend of cold-pressed plant oils and extracts such as cacay, noni fruit, prickly pear and rosehip help to hydrate, nourish, calm and soothe irritation while the aroma of vanilla helps to unwind the mind before you drift off and get the beauty sleep you deserve. The silky texture leaves my dry skin feeling soft and smooth when I wake, keeping dry patches at bay and leaving my complexion looking fresh and glowing in its appearance.
