Why I created a bath oil that truly helps you relax and unwind by Amaranthine

There’s something deeply comforting about a bath. Not the rushed, practical kind, but the quiet ritual – when the door is closed, the lights are low, and for a little while, nothing is being asked of you.

For a long time, I’ve believed that skincare isn’t just about what it does for your skin, but how it makes you feel. And yet, bath oils – something that should feel indulgent and restorative – often fall short of that promise. Too greasy. Too slippery. Too messy. Not very relaxing at all.

That frustration is what planted the seed for my newest creation: Relax & Unwind, an aromatherapy bath oil that took almost a year to bring to life.

The idea behind it

As a natural skincare formulator and qualified aromatherapist, I work with essential oils every day. I know how powerfully scent can shift your nervous system – how it can gently guide you out of “doing mode” and into rest.

I wanted to create a bath oil that genuinely helped people switch off. Not something showy or overpowering, but a blend that felt like an exhale at the end of the day. Calm, grounding, and quietly uplifting.

I also wanted it to feel nourishing on the skin without leaving you with a slippery bath and an oily clean-up afterwards.

Reimagining what a bath oil can be

Traditional bath oils tend to sit on the surface of the water, forming greasy pools that feel indulgent for a moment, then quickly become annoying. I knew I didn’t want that experience.

Relax & Unwind is made with a blooming formula – meaning it disperses evenly into warm water, turning it softly milky instead of oily. The result is a bath that feels luxurious but effortless. Your skin is left soft and comfortable, the bath rinses away easily, and there’s no residue left behind.

It’s indulgence without the inconvenience – something you can reach for on a Tuesday evening, not just when you have the energy for a full spa routine.

A scent designed to slow you down

The heart of Relax & Unwind is its aromatherapy blend. I chose each essential oil for both its scent and its emotional effect, layering them carefully so the experience unfolds slowly as the bath fills.

It opens with red mandarin – bright, softly sweet, and gently uplifting. There’s a lightness to it that helps lift the day off your shoulders.

As you settle into the bath, neroli and lavender come through. Floral but not overpowering, they bring a sense of calm and clarity – the kind that quietens mental chatter rather than sending you straight to sleep.

Finally, frankincense anchors the blend. Warm, resinous, and grounding, it gives the scent depth and stillness – a feeling of being held, both physically and emotionally.

Together, the blend feels spa-like, botanical, and deeply comforting. Many of my testers described it as “stepping into a spa” – exactly the experience I hoped to create.

Made slowly, with intention

Every bottle of Relax & Unwind is hand-blended by me in small batches in my Glasgow studio. It’s made using natural ingredients, and it’s certified cruelty-free and palm oil free – values that have been at the heart of my brand since the very beginning.

I wanted this bath oil to feel like something you’d love to give as much as you’d enjoy using yourself. That’s why it comes in timeless blue glass – luxurious, calming, and designed to sit beautifully in any bathroom.

A simple ritual, made meaningful

Whether it becomes part of your nightly wind-down or an occasional weekend treat, Relax & Unwind is designed to turn an everyday bath into something more intentional.

A small pause in the day, and a gentle reminder to slow down.

For me, this bath oil represents everything I love about formulation – blending science, aromatherapy, and emotion into something that quietly supports wellbeing. And if it helps someone else carve out a little calm in their day, then it’s doing exactly what it was made for.
