As our skin changes throughout the year, we freely adapt our skincare routines to cater for the external effects on our skin – so why is the transition more problematic when it comes to hormonal changes later in life?

The menopause still remains a taboo subject, especially amongst those starting with peri-menopausal symptoms which can begin as early as late thirties. Despite only being in my late 20s, I see the effects the symptoms of the menopause has on the women around me, and unfortunately, there still remains the stigma around the subject. The mainstream skincare industry seems so concerned about anti-aging that they fail when it comes to treating the most common symptoms such as age-related dry skin and dull complexions, and when they do, the packaging is incredibly clinical and the ingredients leave a lot to be desired.

Thankfully, this is where many natural beauty brands are triumphant, celebrating women of a certain age with skincare which looks attractive and is targeted at those over the age of forty. Thankfully, as someone with a very dry skin type, I utilise a lot of products within my skincare routine that are targeted at more mature skin types as they are incredibly effective in the treatment of my dry, dehydrated and lack-lustre skin. When Nudge Boutique kindly asked me if i’d like to try out their Kokum Body Boost Butter*, I was incredibly excited to put it to the test.

Nudge Boutique is a natural and organic beauty brand, formulating plant-based products to help women nourish their skin to “reclaim their sense of wellbeing”. The age-positive products are all vegan friendly, cruelty-free and handmade in Norfolk – with a percentage of each sale going to the Love Me Love My Face Charity, showing that the brand goes beyond creating simple beauty products and are invested in the wider community.

Kokum Body Boost Butter is specifically formulated for age-related dry skin, sun-damaged skin as well as extra-dry skin types. The nourishing formula is created with a blend of Kokum, Murumuru, Cocoa and Mango butters along with rosehip, blackcurrant seed and coconut oils to create a beautifully rich butter that has a texture which i’ve personally never experienced before. The whipped consistency is silky smooth and melts instantly on contact with the skin, absorbing beautifully and leaving behind no greasy residue in its wake. The scent is heavenly; citrus-fresh Pink Grapefruit and May Chang give a refreshing and uplifting aroma which is reminiscent of sherbet – yet isn’t sickly sweet or overpowering. I love how a little product goes a long way, with a small amount giving skin maximum moisturisation, leaving behind skin which is soft, smooth and incredibly nourished. What impressed me the most was the longevity of the body butter, as its performance not only left my skin looking and feeling gloriously nourished all day long but the incredible fresh scent remained on the skin too. This has worked wonders for my dry skin, especially on my elbows, knees and lower legs. I feel this will be the perfect body butter for any season, thanks to its unique texture and amazing results that means it will certainly be part of my body care collection for the long haul.

As Nudge Boutiques’ range is formulated with age in mind, I thought i’d also get some willing friends and family members to try the products out, as I knew it worked wonders on my extra dry skin type, but I wanted to see how it performed on more mature skin types too – and the feedback certainly speaks for itself…

“I love this butter, [it’s] very rich and smells gorgeous, not too strong. Melts nicely in your warm hands and glides over your skin. Great on my dry skin. [My] skin feels like silk and well hydrated. Would love to purchase it.” – Louise, 40s

“The body butter has a fresh scent which is very uplifting. The texture is very light and lovely to the touch. Easy to rub into the skin and absorbs quickly as it’s very light but nourishing. It leaves skin feeling very silky and smooth” – Julie, 50s

I have to say that my first experience with a Nudge Boutique product has been exceptional, with a body butter that is unlike anything i’ve ever used before. It has the intensity and overall performance of an oil yet the light and smooth texture of the butter makes it a joy to use. The results across a range of ages shows just how good the product is, and the way in which the brand themselves are so age positive is a true celebration of natural beauty at any age.
