Micro Algae has become a buzz word in the beauty industry over the past few years thanks to its incredible properties that can really make a difference to both the look and feel of our skin. Yet despite its popularity, do we really know what Microalgae is and why it is becoming increasing popular within the products we use on a daily basis? After recently discovering The Beauty of Caring, and hearing their stance on these ingredients, I thought it was time to break down exactly what Microalgae is and more importantly, why we should be using it within our skincare routines.

What is Microalgae?

Microalgae are organisms found in oceans, lakes and ponds, and much like Macroalgae’s such as seaweed, they have some exceptional health and wellness properties. Did you know that Microalgae is responsible for between 50% – 80% of the oxygen we breathe while also absorbing 10% more CO2 than other plants?

Yet with over 30,000 species of algae, only around a dozen have actually been studied for skincare purposes and their beauty benefits identified. Thanks to having a smaller molecular weight, Microalgae’s are easily penetrated into the skin so their incredible benefits have a greater effect on both the look and feel of the skin in a shorter period of time.

The Benefits of Microalgae in Skincare

The benefits of microalgae vary on the species, quality and how they are utilised in formulations, but you can expect long-lasting properties such as instant hydration, improved brightness, deeply detoxifying qualities and a reduction in the signs of premature aging on the skin. Despite these benefits featuring in many products on the market, there are one brand who are pushing these amazing properties even further, Through research and development and high quantities of microalgae’s in each of their formulations, The Beauty of Caring are leading the way in innovative, microalgae skincare that certainly stands out in the natural skincare industry.

The Beauty of Caring

The Beauty of Caring are a small, family-run business with self-care and the environment at its heart, promoting the practice of taking care of ourselves, others and the planet to enhance our overall wellness. The brand harnesses the power of the natural world around us in order to showcase the benefits of natural ingredients, with a “circular caring” mission highlighting how we are all connected to the very environment we inhabit. The brand take their inspiration and ingredients from oceans, lakes and flora, with a focus upon sustainability within the beauty industry. By actively reducing their carbon footprint, opting for eco-friendly packaging, making products in small batches and using suppliers located close to their laboratory in Barcelona, the brand’s ethos that “sustainability is part of our DNA” is realised in each and every product from their highly effective range of natural skincare.

Where The Beauty of Caring differ in their use of Microalgae’s is that they don’t simply take them in their natural form from the environment like other brands. Instead, using a technological partner and over 15 years of research and development, they are able to isolate and stabilise enzymes from the microalgae to target and enhance their benefits even further . In doing so, their products become potent in microalgae magic, with around 18kg of microalgae required for just 1gram of enzymes!

After exploring several products from their range of luxurious skincare, the incredible benefits of the microalgae enzymes is realised in the capsule collection that is incredibly unique, innovation and very special indeed…

The Beauty of Caring: Glow Drops

|AD – Product| It is no surprise that Glow Drops were a Clean Beauty Award winner in 2022’s Serum category, as the formulation is so beautiful in both texture and performance. The microalgae enzymes in this particular serum are capable of controlling melanin in order to treat age spots and pigmentation, making it more advanced than Vitamin C. As well as improving the appearance of pigmentation, the enzymes also help to protect the skin from further UV damage and give an overall brighter complexion.

Glow Drops also contains 3 types of hyaluronic acids to penetrate different layers of skin for longer hydration, while other ingredients have been carefully selected for their anti-aging, nourishing and skin brightening properties. What I have loved about Glow Drops in particular is the stunning texture that is milky yet applies to skin beautifully, instantly absorbing into the skin and leaving it feeling silky to the touch. The effects are long lasting, providing intense hydration all day long. The concentrated formulation means that a few drops is all you need with each application, so it’s long lasting which is great to hear with a higher-end product.

The Beauty of Caring: Morning Bliss

|AD – PR Product| Morning Bliss is a beautiful day cream that contains very clever enzymes to help combat damage caused by photoaging. The enzymes help to repair DNA cell damage and protect the skin as the enzymes themselves are activated by UV and Blue light, using the light radiation from both sources to heal the skin rather than damage it.

In a similar way to Glow Drops, Morning Bliss also uses a 3 hyaluronic acid formulation to stimulate collagen synthesis and hydrate the skin. The natural prebiotic cream deeply moisturises the skin while helping to improve the appearance and depth of fine lines and wrinkles, while also boosting skin radiance after use. The lightweight formulation is where Morning Bliss really shines for me, as it ensures that skin stays both hydrated and moisturised throughout the day yet sinks into the skin with ease, making it great for under make-up. I have been enjoying Morning Bliss thoroughly since I began using it last year and my skin has been loving the incredible benefits from the wealth of skin loving ingredients.

The Beauty of Caring: Precious Oil Serum

|AD – Awards Entry| Another product that is one of my personal favourites from the brand’s range is the stunning Precious Oil Serum that really performs incredibly well on my dry skin. I was fortunate enough to try this as a judge on the Clean Beauty Awards last year and the quality of the product is spectacular, something which is equally mirrored in both Morning Bliss and Glow Drops.

You can find out more about my experience and the product itself in my previous review here, but it is safe to say that the microalgae enzymes that are used are just as impressive as the rest of their range and showcases just how special The Beauty of Caring truly are.
