Caring for our skin can be rather paradoxical. In some ways, when we opt for a natural approach, instead of being more complex and fussy, skincare regimes tend to simplify, often significantly. Opting for natural personal care products can not only reduce the number of products required, but also the time needed for applying them.
Thankfully, this simplifies things in another key area, too. Our finances!
In many ways, opting for a natural approach to skincare, and our health as a whole, can work out being a lot less expensive than more conventional approaches.
Nevertheless, whilst only setting out to clean up and simplify our skincare routines, we often end up changing a lot more than just our moisturisers! This is because learning about the real needs of our skin, and the importance of the role it plays, can turn into an entire roadmap to improved health and vitality… Especially now that natural skincare insights are so readily at hand.
The Two Sides Of Our Skin
It doesn’t take too much of a stretch of the imagination to realise that our skin on the outside is a direct reflection of our skin that is facing inward. So, if we have signs of distress on the outside, the other side of our skin is likely dealing with stressors too.
Whilst this can be distressing, outward dermatological issues, like acne, eczema, rosacea and dermatitis are some of the best ways of determining that our health, and particularly our digestive health, needs our attention.
Whilst writing this article for Beauty Folio, I was delighted to see this in the March issue: More Than Skin Deep: The Inner Wisdom of Gut and Skin Health by Tracy from Thalia Botanics.
Fantastic! I’ve been writing about the direct impacts of digestive health on our emotional, hormonal and skin health for many years, so it’s incredibly rewarding to see this topic becoming more mainstream.
What’s more, this information has never been more important than it is now. This is why I am so glad to be adding to this body of insight here on Beauty Folio.
Key Impacts To Skin Health
Our internal terrain is critical for our skin health, but occasionally, we can be inwardly robust, and exposed to extreme external factors that can elicit a nasty reaction.
For example, when I was about eleven, my brothers and I were asked to help lay fiberglass insulation.
My father was clearly under massive time pressures, hence the request.
Fiberglass insulation needed laying before he could put floorboards down, across the length of the upstairs extension he was building, converting a bungalow into our new family home, with bedrooms upstairs.
I’m guessing the tenancy was due to expire on the house we were renting whilst we waited for my father to finish these majors works.
The net result was three rosy-red kids, with very itchy skin, and a rather irate mother!
When The External Becomes Internal
External factors are held responsible for things like contact dermatitis, although, even with conditions like this, further investigation will often reveal internal issues are also contributing to the problem…
Plus, external factors don’t always remain on the outside. The latest science is showing that we are breathing in, or are in other ways, unintentionally allowing constituents into our body that are undermining our emotional, energetic, hormonal and digestive health.

For example, any combination of the myriad pollutants and synthetic chemicals circulating in our environments from industrial and agricultural sources, as well as all the toxic synthetic ingredients often found in conventional personal care and cleaning products, can cause some people to develop skin issues.
Emotional stress is also a key precursor to problem skin. This is because stress and worry directly impact digestive health, imposing a negative emotional burden, which in turn, also causes other issues. As our gut is responsible for producing and regulating most of our hormones, as well as providing 80% of our immunity, when these processes are compromised, the condition of our skin will inevitably suffer.
How Natural Products Can Support Skin Health
Wild As The Wind provide a number of products designed to reduce the toxic burdens of modern day living.
Wild As The Wind facial oils are formulated to support skin health in a number of different ways. This includes providing the nutrients our skin needs to be healthy, whilst also containing constituents to address irritation and scarring, and reduce oxidative stress, due to their antioxidant ingredients, etc.
The essential oils and carrier oils used to make Wild As The Wind facial oils are variously, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial / antimicrobial thereby supporting the healing processes of the skin. In addition, they don’t contain any additives.

This simply means that these face oils are free from any synthetic ingredients and only contain natural essential oils and carrier oils. This is very rare within the skincare industry.
Other Ways Of Reducing The Burden
Simply changing our personal care products to all-natural alternatives will not completely reduce the chemical burden our bodies are facing. This is because many lifestyle products and home care products are also toxic, and can inflict a considerable toxic burden on us.
Sadly, we are exposed to a lot of these toxic chemicals via inhalation as well as through direct contact.
For example, most conventional cleaning products are entirely synthetic, containing synthetic cleaning agents and fragrances. These artificial ingredients have access to the body, through the skin, and via inhalation.
And, it’s all so unnecessary! Traditional cleaning methods are equally as effective, if not more so, and are a lot more environment and human friendly! Plus, they are a lot more affordable, as well.
- Using distilled white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda pretty much has you covered, although some people use citric acid, as well.
- Adding essential oils to DIY cleaning products, and fragrance-free shop-bought cleaning products, improves them aromatically, whilst also adding potent antibacterial / antimicrobial cleaning power.
- Switching to green cleaning products and ditching conventional cleaners is one of the most effective ways of reducing our domestic toxic burden.
Aside from the cosmetic benefits of improved skin and less cellulite, we can also look forward to higher levels of energy and feeling more radiant emotionally and hormonally.
