OV Naturals is a small artisan brand founded by one woman with a dedication to essential oils and the positive effects they have on the mind, body and soul. Lucy, an aromatherapist here in the UK, creates beautiful natural products which are all vegan friendly, cruelty free and free from nasties such as parabens, SLS, formaldehyde, paraffin and synthetic fragrances. All the products are handblended and handcrafted by Lucy herself, using ingredients which are 84 – 99% organic, and this dedication to clean ingredients in skincare is realised in her extensive range of products available on the brand’s website.
Lucy recently sent me a sample* of her first Eau de Toilette, aptly named ‘Golden’, designed to evoke memories of golden days. ‘Golden’ contains 99.9% natural ingredients and has a blend of 19 essential oils which creates a playful, complex and tenacious fragrance that captures the very essence of the brand itself. The sample is a great size, with 2ml giving you enough product for several applications to determine whether or not you enjoy the scent, and is available for just £4.99.
Golden begins with lovely light, fresh notes of pink grapefruit, pink pepper, Italian bergamot and damask rose oil which has a subtle zing of citrus and a floral sweetness about it which reminds me of lazy summer days.
After a few hours, the scent begins to evolve and instead of the fresh notes that started the day, fresh neroli, tuberose, magnolia leaf and sweet rose absolute kicks in, giving the scent a warmer and deeper fragrance which has a feminine edge from the floral essential oils.
Finally, as nighttime looms, ‘Golden’ also takes a darker turn, where wild frankinscence and ambretta seed give the EDT a sultry, spicer scent which takes you through the night.
This is the first fragrance that i’ve had that takes so many twists and turns throughout the day, and really takes your senses on a journey; evolving with you during the day and finally flourishing during the evening. This EDT lasts all day, even during this hot weather, and is the perfect scent for every occassion. The lightness of the fragrance doesn’t overpower, it just lingers enough to give you bursts of scent during the day. It is the perfect EDT for anyone who gets bored of single note fragrances and those who want to experience a perfume and not just wear it. It is understandable that ‘Golden’ took a lengthy 3 years to develop, as it really is as precious as it’s namesake.
Lucy also kindly included a sample* of one of her best selling botanical facial oils in my parcel, and as you all know how much I love a facial oil, it was certainly a welcomed addition! Buoyant is designed for mature and combination skin, and brings vibrancy to give a more healthy appearance to the skin. I absolutely love the scent of bergamot and neroli, which for me are the two essential oils at the forefront of Buoyant, and it’s perfect as a morning oil to awaken your senses. The facial oil has a rich texture, which is surprisingly lightweight on the skin and absorbs beautifully without leaving any greasy residue. I’ve used this sample on a couple of occasions and although I can’t comment on the long term effects on my skin, the immediate results were nice. My skin felt nourished and moisturised throughout the day and I didn’t experience any breakouts or irritation. It appears to really suit my skin, and although I have neither a mature or combination skin type, I can see that it would be perfect for both as well as dry and sensitive skin such as my own.
Even though I have only tried two sample products from OV Naturals, I have been very impressed with the brand ethos, product quality and even the eco-friendly nature of all the packaging and promotional material. I can’t wait to try more from the brand and will certainly be placing an order very soon.
