Welcome to the second installment of the new Meet the Maker interviews, a series of questions and answers with some of the faces behind the brands that make a big impact on our skincare routines. It is great to find products that can transform our beauty regimes for the better but I wanted to find out more about the people behind the brands and discover what motivates them to formulate the products within their ranges.

The second brand i’d like to introduce is Ezape Naturals, a company dedicated to formulating gentle skincare that is intensely nourishing and effective on even the most sensitive skin types. Vanessa, the founder of the brand, has a capsule collection that is perfect for dry and problematic skin concerns. She keeps her range as Earth conscious as possible, eradicating as much plastic packaging as she can, reflecting her love of ethical beauty and affordable pricing.

I have been an Ezape Naturals customer for quite some time and have been fortunate to be their brand ambassador for around a year. I absolutely love sharing Vanessa’s amazing products with my followers and showcasing that even the most problematic skin can experience some truly beautiful skincare at a great price.

Emma: Welcome Vanessa, thank you for taking part in my meet the maker series. Tell us a little about yourself…

Vanessa: First I would just like to thank you Emma for wanting to interview me.

Ok so I’m  married with 3 children and I’m a qualified beauty therapist. After studying beauty therapy I realised that it wasn’t my true passion so I studied fashion which I loved. I used to do beaded embroidery on clothing and framed pieces for home décor . I’m a very creative person that enjoys making things by hand. I currently love formulating new products and working with new ingredients.

Emma: Have you always been interested in green beauty?

Vanessa: I would say yes and no because I would always go for products that had an ingredient in its name as I thought that it was more natural but obviously that doesn’t make the product more natural but I didn’t know that then. So I would say that I thought that I was.

Emma: I think this has happened to all of us at one stage in our green beauty journeys!  What initially motivated you to start formulating products and create Ezape Naturals?

Vanessa: I started formulating as I was looking for a solution to my daughters eczema. My dad and some cousins also have suffered with eczema for years so I created my brand because I want to help others with similar skin conditions.

Emma: It is lovely to hear of your personal connection to the products you create. What are the main challenges you face as a formulator of natural skincare products?

Vanessa: Probably trying to find organic and unrefined ingredients and sometimes having to question suppliers on this. I also find that sometimes the organic ingredients that I want go out of stock quicker than the non organic ones now which can be a little frustrating.

Emma: It is great to hear of your determination for sourcing those organic ingredients. Which is your favourite product to make from your collection and why?

Vanessa: My Ylang ylang and Lavender Body Oil because its the quickest to make and the scent is amazing, my whole kitchen is filled with the beautiful scent after making a batch. I sometimes have a little left over from my batch that I use for myself and I fall in love with this product all over again. I’m always smiling when I get to use this body oil as I don’t use the products that I sell very often because I’m always trying out a new products so when I get to use my old products it is truly a treat.

Emma: If you had to choose just one product from your range, what would it be and why?

Vanessa: My Chamomile Balm because it is such a great multi tasking product and this is the product that I have got the most positive reviews and feedback on from customers saying how quickly it helps their skin. That makes me so happy and proud of this fantastic balm, also this is the product that I usually recommend to customers if they ask for something to help treat their eczema.

Emma: It certainly is an amazing product. What would be your desert island product or item?

Vanessa: Probably my Chamomile Balm for the reasons above.

Emma: Would you like to expand your range in the future and if so, what products would you love to add to your collection?

Vanessa: Yes definitely. I’m hoping to add more body butter scents to the range very soon. I also have a few new oils that me and my family have been testing out for a while now and we absolutely love them and I have just started working on my facial care range.
