Back in 2016, I tried Isla Apothecary for the first time and was seriously impressed by both the quality of the product and the brand’s ethos. I can’t believe that it took me a year to rediscover Isla Apothecary when I purchased their Discovery Kit towards the end of last year…
Isla Apothecary are a small British skincare brand who create handcrafted products which combine ethically sourced ingredients with traditional apothecary methods of production to make beautiful products which are vegan friendly and cruelty free.
The amazingly good value Discovery Kit, featuring a selection of mini skincare treats including a face mask, body oil, sugar scrub and bath salts, is presented in a beautiful luxury white box with magnetic closure. The mini products are a great way to try the range and would also make the perfect gift – for someone special or as a well-deserved treat for yourself! The products are so good that one has even made it’s way into my top ten products of 2017…
Refine and Radiate Beautifying Face Mask
If there is one product that lives up to it’s name, this is certainly it. This face mask, containing powdered coconut milk, red sandalwood powder and turmeric root, is designed to restore moisture and give a greater resilience to sensitive skin types. The powder itself, which can be mixed with honey or hydrosols/floral/purified water, gives you the freedom to create your preferred texture and tailor it to your skin concerns (my personal favourite is honey as it’s great for my dry skin!). Now i’m personally not a huge fan of the scent, but the results certainly eradicates that negative aspect. After use, my skin feels incredibly soft and my dry and flaky skin feels a lot smoother. I’ve used this for a few weeks now, and my skin definitely looks brighter and glowing, and the redness on my cheeks has also improved. It’s a really great product for all skin types and I love the fact that it’s also 100% natural and 90% organic.
Neroli Body Oil
You all know how much I love a body oil, so you can imagine how pleased I was to discover this one nestled in the Discovery Kit! Made with Neroli, Petitgrain, Mandarin oils, Frankincense and Patchouli oils, you can imagine the amazing, heady scent that radiates from the bottle and onto the skin. The properties of the natural ingredients, which promise to cleanse, balance, improve elasticity, heal and improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks, do so in the most gentle way that it’s even suitable to use on your face. This multi-purpose dry oil is the perfect multi-tasker, as you can use it directly to the body or as a bath oil. I personally love it as a body oil after a bath, as it is super-absorbent and my skin feels so soft and nourished after use!
Blood Orange and Vanilla Sugar Scrub
I do love the zesty and tangy scent of orange in skincare products so this was certainly a winner for me. Raw sugar cane buffs skin in preparation for the shea butter, coconut, peach kernel and vitamin oils to tone, cleanse, retain moisture and give a boost of anti-oxidants to the skin. The scrub certainly delivers on it’s promises and leaves skin feeling smooth and intensely moisturised and not at all greasy after use (and it really does smell good enough to eat!).
Relax and Recover Bath Salts
Last but by no means least, the Relax and Recover bath salts, which have a blend of essential oils designed to calm and offer relaxation (especially at bedtime!). Dried lavender and oils of rose, geranium, bergamot and cedarwood atlas (and not forgetting the all important Epsom salts!), relives tiredness and tension in the muscles, especially after exercise, to aid recovery. You only need a small amount under running water, and they dissolve quickly and efficiently, just leaving some dried lavender floating on the surface of the water. Relaxing in a hot bath with Relax and Recover bath salts is a treat for the mind, body and soul and is the perfect bath time treat – so much so that it featured in my top ten of 2017!
The Isla Apothecary Discovery Kit has been a treasure trove of mini delights and has certainly introduced me to some new skincare best friends. The beautiful packaging also gives the products a feel of luxury and makes you feel like you’re receiving something very special indeed. For just £21.00, this really is amazing value for money!
