When I first discovered Joanna Naturals in November’s Skin Organics Clean Beauty Box, I knew from first impressions that the brand was special, not only in their product performance but also in their passion for natural skincare.

Joanna Naturals is a vegan, artisan beauty brand with its roots firmly in aromatherapy and the natural world around us, harnessing the power of plant-based ingredients to formulate a skincare range which maintains skin health and balance for everyone on a long term basis. Each oil offers the very best natural ingredients and is designed to fit seamlessly into your skincare routine thanks to the carefully selected oils that absorb quickly into the skin so you never have to wait for product to soak into the skin.

There are ten facial oils within Joanna Naturals range, each aptly named based on the skincare benefits they provide, so you can find the right oil for your skin type (even if you have problematic or sensitive skin). Not only do Joanna Naturals offer multiple sizes on each of their products but they also offer a sample service too, so you can try a range of oils that will suit your skin type to discover your perfect facial oil for a fraction of the cost. Where Joanna Naturals, and other indie brands, differ from your mainstream beauty corporations is that they are always there to give help and advice on their products as well as any skincare questions you might have. You are not just purchasing the next best beauty product, you are paying for the wealth of knowledge that is behind the very brands themselves.

I was incredibly impressed by my first impression of So Calm, a facial oil designed to calm rosacea prone skin, and thanks to the generosity and kindness of Jo, the founder of Joanna Naturals, I was able to try their Intense facial oil too. As a true supporter of facial oils, I couldn’t wait to see the long term effects of these two facial oils to determine which one would triumph on my dry and sensitive skin.

Joanna Naturals: So Calm Facial Oil

When I tried So Calm last year, my first impressions were positive as So Calm certainly lived up to its name on first application. The rich oil absorbed quickly into the skin and instantly felt soothing and nourishing. This calming blend contains some beautiful oils such as rice bran, pomegranate, black seed, hemp, rosehip and argan to strengthen the skin’s barrier, fight free-radicals and deeply nourish the skin. So Calm goes beyond the moisturising benefits of a face oil, as it also targets redness and irritations associated with rosacea and other skin problems as well as protecting the skin from further irritants. The oils and essences that makes So Calm perfect for problematic skin types also makes it a great oil for dry, mature and damaged skin too. The beautiful floral fragrance, which has a predominant lavender aroma, is calming, soothing and offers a few moments of relaxation during application. I used So Calm throughout the Christmas period when my skin was agitated from being indoors a little more with the central heating. It left my skin feeling soothed, less irritated and calmed the redness down in my cheeks, as well as helping the dry patches of eczema around my nose and on my forehead. So Calm definitely lives up to its name and I have to say that I would certainly keep a bottle of this at hand for when my skin needs a little bit of TLC.

*Joanna Naturals: Intense Facial Oil

Intense Facial Oil is perfect for all skin types, but thanks to the beautiful ingredients, those with a mature or damaged skin type would particularly reap the benefits. Formulated with Olive Squalene and skin loving oils such as rosehip, argan, red raspberry, jojoba, kiwi and pomegranate, Intense helps to keep skin feeling supple and incredibly soft. The addition of evening primrose oil, calendula, marine algae, rosemary and vitamin E also give it an restoring quality and helps to fight free radicals that can lead to premature aging. Even though the stunning blend of lavender, frankincense and neroli essential oils gives Intense an incredibly luxurious scent, the natural fragrance of the carrier oils still shines through, giving a balanced aroma that is a true delight for the skin and the senses alike. The oil itself is surprisingly lightweight and sinks into the skin with ease leaving behind no greasy residue. My skin looked instantly nourished after application and even though my skin didn’t feel as soft to the touch as it did after using So Calm for the first time, my skin was intensely moisturised and flake-free all day long; something which rarely happens to my dry skin over the Winter months. I have to say that during the recent cold snap at the start of the year, Intense was my go-to face oil as the texture, scent and performance in the cooler weather made it a joy to use. My skin was certainly less dry and felt pampered each time I used it, and I found that it also worked well in conjunction with my usual face moisturiser and weekly face mask, as my skincare was certainly supercharged for a all-round moisture boost. What I felt most surprised about was how little oil I used for maximum effect, as I still have some oil left despite using it for around 6 weeks. It has certainly exceeded my expectations and has been a true winter skincare saviour that would make a great addition to any skincare routine.

Both on Wood Slice

This lovely duo has certainly impressed me as it improved my winter skincare routine for the better. Both oils bring with them a wealth of benefits to suit the majority of skin types and concerns. The brand have blown me away with the beautiful products and I love the extensive range that caters for all.

On a more exciting note,  the brand has recently received a revamp, with a new modern and eye catching design that gives the labelling a clean and stylish edge that matches the clean product contained within. The simplistic nature of the new branding aligns the brand with some of the higher end companies on the market and would be a great edition to any beauty collection.
